Khan suggested a "public health" approach to knife crime and that it would take years for it to work. Coverage of that (and comments on here) said Khan was a leftie, light touch blah blah blah.

Forget the left right back and forth about stop and search because it is pointless. The individuals most outraged will be the regularly S and S black men innocently going about their business.
Predictably they will feel unjustifiably targeted.

I wonder if the parents of any of the murdered teenagers are concerned about the wrongly perceived institutional racism of stop and search. I wonder if any liberals have actually gone to the effort of speaking to them before forming their faux outrage.

This is the bigotry of low expectations from left folk. Some are probably well meaning, some just like to feel good about themselves and this sort of thing makes then feel virtuous.
The complete inability from many on the left to see black people as anything other than victims is one of the factors driving crime in London. Black males are much more prone to violent crime than other groups, therefore it isn't surprising that black males are over represented in stop and search, the court system and prisons. Leftists though get it arse ways around and say that, because they are over represented in those areas, this is evidence not that they are culpable by committing the crimes, but the state is culpable (institutionally racist) for their increased levels of interaction with the judicial system.
The end result of seeing criminals as victims is that you dont come down hard enough on them and the real victims, invariably people from their communities who are the same ethnic group, suffer more.
To be on the left means that you must start with dogma and skew any evidence available to fit that dogma. By skew, I also mean invent, even if the group you purport to be defending ends up suffering more as a result.
